Forensic Science & WildLife Matters is a specialist consultancy service headed by Dr. Silvana Tridico. Silvana commenced her career in 1982 as a forensic biologist and is well-known globally for her expertise in this field.

Silvana’s proficiency covering a range of forensic science disciplines emanates from vast years of experience working in prestigious laboratories across Australia, New Zealand and Canada. She was involved from the beginning of DNA profiling in SA. Silvana was a member of an FBI expert panel for several years at the FBI training academy in Quantico, setting the standards for trace evidence. Silvana is also the only forensic biologist to be published in the top 2 scientific journals of ‘Nature’ and ‘Science’.

We are based in South Australia and provide our forensic services Australia wide and internationally. We also offer forensic training and on-site forensic science workshops.

Wildlife Forensic Science

Our forensic services in Australia support mammal conservation agencies and assist with solving wildlife-related crimes through mammalian hair examination.

We identify mammalian hairs recovered from environmental traps, scats and the environment to generate data for future survey assessments. We assist to identify imported animal products to ensure the animal is not on the protected species list.

Through microscopical examination, we analyse animal hair retrieved from crime scenes and review interpretations of animal hair examinations conducted by other forensic scientists.

Silvana has examined historical hairs from woolly mammoths, extinct woolly rhinos through to ancient human hair. She was the first person to find unique features in mammoth hairs which challenged what people believed mammoths to look like.
